I hope you had a very Merry Christmas to those of you who were celebrating! Our Christmas looked a lot different this year, but we had a good one.
Are there any books or series you are determined to finish before the year ends? As you will see below, I'm determined to finish The Way of Kings while it's still 2021.

Finished Reading
Ghost in the Headlights by Lindsey Duga ⭐⭐⭐⭐★ - This is a great book for kids starting their horror journey.
Cackle by Rachel Harrison ⭐⭐⭐⭐★ - This was a delight!
Cece Rios and the Desert of Souls (Cece Rios #1) by Kaela Rivera ⭐⭐⭐⭐★ - I fell in love with Cece Rios right away.
A 4⭐ week! Stay tuned for full reviews of these.
Currently Reading
Rock Paper Scissors by Alice Feeney - This is so good so far! I've been waiting for a thriller like this one all year.
The Way of Kings (The Stormlight Archive #1) by Brandon Sanderson - I've literally been reading this all year. I decided yesterday to devote this week to finishing it before the year ends. I'm about 550 pages in now, and it's finally getting good!
Added to the TBR
I'm *hoping* to read a lot more fantasy in 2022. These are some TBR books I picked up while out doing last minute Christmas shopping last week. Have you read any of these?
Malice (The Faithful and the Fallen #1) by John Gwynne
The Fires of Vengeance (The Burning #2) by Evan Winter
Magic for Liars by Sarah Gailey
The Changeling by Victor LaValle
City of Blades (The Divine Cities #2) by Robert Jackson Bennett
City of Miracles (The Divine Cities #3) by Robert Jackson Bennett
This post is being shared as part of Book Date, Unleashing Readers, and Teach Mentor Texts It's Monday! What Are You Reading? and Caffeinated Book Reviewer's The Sunday Post.
The Lindsey Duga books are doing really well in my library, and Ash House has circulated more than I thought it would. Definitely a great, creepy cover!
ReplyDeleteThe cover for The Ash House is so great.
DeleteMy husband and son love Brandon Sanderson! I bought my husband two of his for Christmas. Glad you had a good Christmas. We did as well. We are now in TN visiting family.
ReplyDeleteMy son loves Sanderson, too! :) Have fun in TN!
DeleteGood luck finishing The Way of Kings. I really enjoyed Magic for Liars😁
ReplyDeleteThank you! It's a bit of a struggle that one. :)
DeleteThe In-Between caught my eye. I think it's good you mentioned you had to stick with it. I tend to give up on books like that. Hope you have a wonderful Christmas and many blessings for the new year.
ReplyDeleteI do, too, and I'm really glad I didn't. :) Happy New Year, Sam!
DeleteI enjoyed Magic for Liars. I'm not a big Brandon Sanderson fan but I did enjoy Steelheart. Come see my week here. Happy reading!
ReplyDeleteOoh, that's two votes for Magic for Liars.
DeleteI enjoyed Rock Paper Scissors. Enjoy your week and your books, and Happy New Year! Here are my WEEKLY UPDATES
ReplyDeleteI'm loving Rock Paper Scissors. Happy New Year!
DeleteI've seen Rock Paper Scissors around a bit and have it on my tbr now. I'm glad you had a good Christmas and I wish you a very happy New Year. I hope you get to finish Way of Kings.
ReplyDeleteAnne - Books of My Heart
I hope you enjoy Rock Paper Scissors if you manage to read it! :) Happy New Year!
DeleteI'm glad you were able to enjoy Christmas even though it looked different—I hope you enjoy the new year as well! I'm always impressed by people who can read Brandon Sanderson's extremely long books, so I'm glad you're enjoying the one you're on now! And I'm glad the things you finished this week ended up being pretty good—I've heard good things about Cece Rios and the Desert of Souls. Thanks so much for the great post, Jen!
ReplyDeleteI love Sanderson, but whew, he really has written some tomes. Thank goodness his endings are pure gold.
DeleteReading more fantasy, not that's a good focus. Good to hear you had a good Christmas and hopefully a bit of extra reading.
ReplyDeleteNot so much during Christmas, but I have some time off now and I'm really enjoying daytime reading!
DeleteI should probably check out Cece Rios as well, thanks for the recommendation. My oldest has been reading some Brandon Sanderson and then we started watching The Wheel of Time together. Sanderson is connected to the books at the end of that series, but she hasn't read this series. I will tell her to be patient if she does. Thanks for the shares.
ReplyDeleteThe Wheel of Time is easier to read than Sanderson if she wants to give it a try. It starts out very similar to Lord of the Rings (which I highly recommend for her as well).
DeleteMalice does look like an awesome fantasy read. I've got that one on my TBR list, too. :)
ReplyDeleteI started reading it while we were out shopping, and I wanted to throw out the TBR and keep reading!
DeleteI hope you enjoy your books. They look really good. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteGlad you had a nice Christmas!
ReplyDeleteThe Feeney book looks really good.
The only book I've read is <magic for Liars which I really enjoyed. Great group of books! happy reading.
ReplyDeleteI had Cece Rios on my TBR for awhile now and was about to remove it but seeing it on this post makes me want to reconsider.
ReplyDeleteCrackle is on my TBR. It sounds amazing! I hope you are having an amazing week!
ReplyDeleteGlad you enjoyed Cackle! Totally underrated and underread gem that deserves more attention!
ReplyDeleteCackle is a book that sounds like a complete delight!
