August 26 | Currently Reading

Today is back to school day for my little 1st grader!

Last week I posted my review for William Kent Krueger's Tamarack County and shared ten things that make my reading life easier.

I had an excellent reading week. I was able to knock a couple of books off of my reading bucket list: The 39 Steps by John Buchan and The Time Machine by H.G. Wells. I've been fangirling over The Time Machine all weekend.

Carrying on with my reading bucket list I started reading The Turn of the Screw by Henry James. I can already tell you this won't be a favorite of mine.

I'm also still reading the marvelous The Lies of Locke Lamora. I'm proud of myself for sticking to the readalong schedule.

Happy Monday everyone! To those of you with school age kids, I hope you are excited for the new year. Be sure to let me know what you are reading this week or leave me a link!

  1. Aw, I hope your little one has an amazing day in 1st grade! (My "baby" started middle school last week!) I picked up a copy of The Time Machine at a book sale last year - glad to hear you enjoyed it so much! I've heard so many good thinks about The Lies of Locke Lamora; I know I should read that one too. Have a great week! Here's what I'm reading: http://wp.me/p2B4Be-1le

  2. I completed The Time Machine this month as well. I have decided I am not much of a fan of Wells. I am more into the classics so I had to give him a shot. Sci-fi is not my thing I guess. Hope all goes will with your 1st grader! Goes so fast! Mine are in 9th and 11th, then we have a senior in college...:(

    1. I'm finding I really like Wells. I enjoyed War of the Worlds, too. Scary scifi is my favorite kind of scifi so those were a big hit with me. Thanks for the 1st grade wishes! He had a really great day. Oh, high school and college... it will be here before I know it, I know.

    1. I don't think I've heard of What Maisie Knew! I'm not sure I will pick up another Henry James. If you can't make me love a ghost story, you don't have much hope. Haha. :)

  4. I like your classics line-up, good choices. I loved the Hitchcock movie of the 39 Steps; the book must have been really good! It's not very long, I might pick it up to read in near future. Thanks for sharing and enjoy.

    1. I went into The 39 Steps thinking I had seen the Hitchcock movie, but now I'm pretty sure I haven't. I think I actually own it, too! I need to watch it. The book is really short so it's a quick read.
