Books That Have Been On My TBR the Longest and I Still Haven’t Read

Today's Top Ten Tuesday topic (hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl) is books that have been on our TBRs the longest but we still haven't read them. Below are nine books that have been on my shelf forever, and I really want to read them. Several of these are in my TBR jar this year so I have my fingers crossed I will finally read them this year!

Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier
The House Next Door by Anne Rivers Siddon
Ghost Story by Peter Straub

The Cellar by Richard Laymon
The Talisman by Stephen King and Peter Straub
Lonesome Dove by Larry McMurtry

The Girl Next Door by Jack Ketchum
My Soul to Keep by Tananarive Due
Midnight Rain by James Newman

Have you read any of the books on my list? Are there any I need to finally move to the top of my TBR?

  1. I own Rebecca but never read it. I have read Ghost Story (I remember kind of not liking it that well but little more) and The Talisman, which although I liked, I liked the sequel, Black House, even more. I hope you make time for some of these awesome books this year!

    1. We need to read Rebecca. We really do. The reviews have been mixed for Ghost Story, but ghost stories are my favorite so what am I waiting for?? It's an embarrassing omission. I have both The Talisman and Black House so I may wind up reading them both when I pull The Talisman from my jar.

    2. Don't feel badly. I was getting ready to read The Black House and really wanted to and only read The Talisman, which I put off for years, once the sequel came out.

  3. So many there you must read! The Cellar is insane. I'm still not sure how I feel about that one, lol. My husband loved it and I'm still giving him the side-eye over it. Rebecca, The Girl Next Door & The House Next Door were both 5 stars for me. You've got some great reading in your stack!

  4. Oh, you have to read REBECCA and THE TALISMAN! Those are two of my FAVORITES!

I have GHOST STORY in my own TBR and did attempt it a while back. I really struggled, though, and had to set it aside. One day I'll go back to it :)

I did read GIRL NEXT DOOR and THE HOUSE NEXT DOOR, though. Both were one sitting reads for me.

    1. I know!! Rebecca and The Talisman are both in the jar. It. Will. Happen!

I'm afraid Ghost Story will be a huge disappointment, but I absolutely have to read that one.

The House Next Door is in my jar, too. :) I've been petrified of reading The Girl Next Door, but now I really want to read it. :'(

    1. OMG, I know!! After Ghost Story, it's the one book I don't understand why I haven't read it yet. I will definitely watch the movie, too.

  6. Oh, yes! I've read several of these. The Talisman and Ghost Story were both a long, long time ago. I remember liking them, but not loving them. On the other hand, The House Next Door is one of my favorite books ever. Such a different book for Anne Rivers Siddons. Try that one. Rebecca is great too. Read it and then watch the Hitchcock film.

    1. The Talisman and Ghost Story are must reads for me at this point. Hopefully I will love them, but I will read them!!

I have three copies of The House Next Door. LOL. I keep thinking if I buy it again I'll read it?

Rebecca will happen this year. I didn't realize there was a movie until you guys mentioned it. I will have to watch it.

  7. I've read many of these as well, especially King's. Still love to read all his stuff. I have been still trying to catch up on reads that I wanted to finish in 2017, I'll get there eventually. I am currently reading the Doctor How series by Mark Speed which is amazing by the way! I recommend it, it's humorous which is never a bad thing! His info is at http://markspeed.co.uk/.

  8. It took me forever to finally get around to reading Rebecca. But I finally did two years ago. And I liked it. Even better? Now I don't have to feel guilty seeing it on my shelf. :D

  12. I've read The Cellar which I liked and it's quite short, but I wasn't that keen on The Girl Next Door. I really hated the MC.

    1. I've so scared of The Girl Next Door, but I hope to tackle it anyway. I probably won't make it to The Cellar this year, but I bet it goes in the jar for next year. :)

  15. I also have holes in my King books - but, that aside - I must give a shout out to Rebecca. It's the only one I've read off your list and I loved it.
