Recent Updates and Currently Reading | June 3

Happy June to you all. I hope you are settling into summer! The last half of May was a whirlwind for me, but the kids are out of school, and I'm ready for some summer living.

I spent last weekend at Comicpalooza where I got to see Joe Lansdale, Bev Vincent, Martha Wells, and Seanan McGuire. They gave some really great panel discussions, and I was able to get a few books signed. (I also got to meet James Marsters!)

Posted Last Week(s)

Book Review | Odd Man Out by James Newman ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Book Review | Terror is Our Business: Dana Roberts' Casebook of Horrors by Joe R. Lansdale and Kasey Lansdale ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Read Last Week(s)

The Conquerer Worms by Brian Keene - ⭐⭐⭐⭐ This was a fun buddy read with Lilyn (Scifi and Scary). I will have a review up for it in the next week or two.

Terror is Our Business by Joe Lansdale and Kasey Lansdale - ⭐⭐⭐⭐ I had a blast with this one. You can read my full review here.

Recent Acquisitions

The Bottoms by Joe Lansdale - I was able to snag a UK edition of The Bottoms. I originally read The Bottoms during Hurricane Harvey, and it was the perfect book at the perfect time. ❤️

Savage Season by Joe Lansdale - Savage Season is the first book in the Hap and Leonard series. I've read this one as well, but I needed a physical copy for my shelf.

The Road to the Dark Tower: Exploring Stephen King's Magnum Opus by Bev Vincent - Someday I will finish my journey to the Dark Tower. When I do, I will have Bev's book waiting for me.

The Cloud Roads by Martha Wells - The Cloud Roads is the first book in the The Books of the Raksura series. I'm really curious and excited to check it out.

Every Heart a Doorway by Seanan McGuire - I feel like I finally get to see what this series is all about.

The Outsider by Stephen King - Stephen King's new novel is out! I'm just over 60% in, and it's really good.

Demon King by Erik Henry Vick - When you tell me a horror book is 650 pages, I get really high hopes for character and world development. I'm not sure when I'll squeeze in Demon King, but I'm excited to see what's filling these pages.

So what about you? Let me know what you're reading this week or leave me some links!

  3. I'm glad you are enjoying The Outsider. I'm waiting until Stormi gets a library copy so we can make it our buddy read. It's cool you got to meet some great authors and it looks like you grabbed some good books. I LOVE Seanan McGuire. I hope you love Every Heart a Doorway as much as I did. The second one was my fave and the third fell short for me (too much like Alice in Wonderland) but I'm hopeful about the next one.

    1. Yes!! The Outsider will be a great buddy read. I keep thinking I wish I was reading it with someone. I'm looking forward to starting the Seanan McGuire series. It's short so I don't have many excuses not to squeeze it in. :)

  10. Comicapalooza sounds like a good time. I would LOVE to meet James Marsters!!! He does such a great job narrating the Harry Dresden series by Jim Butcher. I hope sometime to read the books by Martha Wells and Seanan McGuire. Anne - Books of My Heart

    1. I also watched James Marsters panel, and it was my favorite of the convention. I was so happy the audience was just as big of fans of the Dresden books as they were of Buffy! It was so great.

  11. I'm so looking forward to The Outsider! Unlike King's other books in recent years, which have been mixed with critics, this one seems to be garnering near universal praise and positive reviews.

  22. So jealous of your Comicpalooza visit! We're having a book event in October and I'm hoping to go. I haven't been to one of these gatherings since the late 90's and it scares me more than a little bit. All those people . . . And you met Spike! That must've been a highlight, for sure.
