Recent Updates and Currently Reading | April 10

Real talk - despite being triple protected, I managed to come down with you-know-what back in January. I have been so low functioning ever since, I haven't managed to do blog updates other than a couple of reviews over the last few months. This may not be an official return to weekly posts, but it's a start! I'm hoping to spend some time today catching up with everyone the best I can.

These are my favorite reads over the last few months:

Bad Witch Burning by Jessica Lewis The Other Black Girl by Zakiya Dalila Harris Our Last Echoes by Kate Alice Marshall
Girl in the Walls by Katy Michelle Quinn The Dead and the Dark by Courtney Gould Long Lost by Jacqueline West

Dead Silence by S.A. Barnes and White Smoke by Tiffany D. Jackson - I'm really enjoying these. They are both CREEPY! 👻

Sorry for such a short update. I promise there will be more. I just wanted to mention where I've been and why I may be commenting on some really old posts today... I hope you all are doing well!

This post is being shared as part of Book Date, Unleashing Readers, and Teach Mentor Texts It's Monday! What Are You Reading? and Caffeinated Book Reviewer's The Sunday Post.

  1. So sorry you were in the minority who do get sick despite shots! I'm older than you, so my husband and I are going to get our second round of boosters tomorrow just in case. I go grocery shopping once a week and we get gas, but otherwise we are sticking to our backyard and house. As a reader, the hermit life suits me just fine and the adult kids do visit once in awhile.

I don't do horror or really creepy books but out of your titles I like the sound of The Other Black Girl and Dead Silence. I hope you feel better and get back into reading and blogging more.

  2. Well Jennifer I hope you'll get back to your "before" normal soon! People still catch it even with triple protection but they say that usually they have milder symptoms. I have been lucky to have been spared so far but who knows!

  3. I'm so sorry you haven't been feeling well. I'm going to get my second booster this week, but people are still getting Covid anyway.

I enjoy creepy books and the ones you are reading look good.

Enjoy your books, feel better and have a great week!

  4. I’m sorry to hear you are experiencing the effects of Long Covid. My youngest son (triple vaxxed) just tested positive last night, and I’m now quite anxious that my odds of getting it have skyrocketed after being so careful for so long.
    Take care of yourself

Wishing you a great reading week

  5. Sorry to hear the long-Covid got you. I was lucky. One day of high fever, and then a good stretch of fatigue and headache, but nothing too serious. ((HUGS)) and I hope you are feeling better soon.

  6. I'm sorry you got ill. We have avoided it but we are really careful, got our 2nd booster recently. We still mask when we go out which is only about once a week for curbside or medical appts. I don't mind our more solitary life - it lets me read a lot. Enjoy your reads!

  7. I'm so sorry to hear you caught COVID and that it's affected you in the long run. I have an IRL friend who's dealing with major complications from when she had COVID in 2020. I hope you start feeling like more yourself soon.

  9. It's so annoying when you get Covid even after the shots. I mean, I know they don't keep you from getting it per se, but still ha ha! Anyway Dead Silence was a TRIP!

  10. Sorry to hear you're continuing to have issues, Jennifer. That's a real fear of mine with Covid... all the possible long-term issues. I hope you'll continue to improve and regain more stamina.

  11. I had it the end of December and all of January. It took me a month to stop having sick symptoms and another month to feel normal again. I hope you get back to normal soon. It seems to take a while.
