Recent Updates and Currently Reading | August 21

Happy weekend book lovers. It was a stressful week for me so the reading was super light. I didn't finish anything, but I did make some progress.

I'm curious - what do you do instead of reading when your mind can't focus? Lately for me it's just watching YouTube: booktube, baseball, podcast clips, music related content... We are getting very close to the time of year where my answer is Hallmark Christmas movies.

Books I Love That Were Written Over Ten Years Ago

Hell Bent by Leigh Bardugo

Currently Reading

The Alloy of Law by Brandon Sanderson The Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson One Piece, Volume 5: For Whom the Bell Tolls by Eiichiro Oda

The Alloy of Law by Brandon Sanderson - I'm really enjoying this. I love being back in the Mistborn world, and I definitely plan to get caught up on era 2 before The Lost Metal comes out in November.

The Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson - Stormfather I'm remembering how long this book is. I'm glad I'm rereading it because I'm able to focus more on the story this time since I've been through all of the worldbuilding before, but I'm 400 pages in and still have over 600 pages to go. It's great, but it's every bit as long as it is.

One Piece, Volume 5: For Whom the Bell Tolls by Eiichiro Oda - Yay - my hold for volume 5 finally came up at the library! I'm almost done reading it. This one actually made me tear up, and I don't think I'm supposed to be affected this strongly yet! This makes me excited for the next... 95 volumes 😳

Added to the TBR

This Appearing House by Ally Malinenko

This Appearing House by Ally Malinenko - I'm so excited about this release. I loved Ghost Girl by Ally Malinenko. {Review of Ghost Girl}

I went out to the movies last night to see Bodies Bodies Bodies. It was different from the trailer, but it was fun!

  1. I'm a phone zombie when I can't focus on reading (or anything else!) I play games or scroll Instagram. I guess that's not so unusual but I'm trying harder to put my phone aside so I don't waste time😁

    1. I do that a lot during the night, and I wish I could read instead.

  2. That Bardugo cover is unsettling. I don't usually have problems reading, but I do like doing puzzles (crosswords, sudoku), playing video games. I hope this week is less stressful for you.

    1. I do, too, and I can usually listen to audio when I do those things. Thank you, Samantha!

  3. I watch a lot of ambient videos and even run them in the background while blog hopping or whatever, or sometimes walking tour videos. But yes Youtube is a godsend sometimes lol. Sometimes I'll just play a music video or song that pops up and then pretty soon I've fallen down a rabbit hole!

Can't wait to get to Ninth House. Seeing the new one makes me want to get to it soon!

  4. I wonder which is the best Brandon Sanderson series. I've been curious about this author lately.

When I can't focus, I tend to play a word game on my phone. Sometimes I draw.

Here's to a less stressful week.

  5. When my mind can't focus on reading, I usually watch TV or a movie. Sometimes I work on my blog and other times I play my Nintendo Switch--Animal Crossing to be exact. LOL.

I hope you have a less stressful week!

  7. I'm looking forward to Hell Bent also. If I can't focus, I do crafts or chores or sometimes scroll social media like Twitter or Facebook.

  10. I tend to watch way too much TV when I can't read. It's mindless and unstressful and passes the time.

  11. I'm here to remind you that IT IS STILL AUGUST, JEN, and no talk of Christmas is acceptable just yet! When I can't read I tend to stare at the tv or Twitter (which is not at all recommended)

    1. Hahaha I knoooow but Christmas movies are so wonderfully mindless. Yeah, Twitter is terrible advice! lol But I wind up doing it, too.
