Recent Updates and Currently Reading | August 18

My kids went back to school this week. This was definitely the quickest summer ever. At least I read some amazing books this summer! My reading really dies off when summer hits, and I have been picking up one amazing book after another.

We are celebrating our one year anniversary over at Ladies of Horror Fiction next month! We are going to be hosting an #lohfreadathon (wherever and however you'd like to join in!)

You can scroll through our recommendations on Instagram if you need book ideas.

Posted Last Week

I posted my ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ review of Theme Music by T. Marie Vandelly. I hope you take a look at this book.

Finished Reading

Hollow Kingdom by Kira Jane Buxton ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ - Yet another amazing book. Hollow Kingdom is so good!

Poetry Magazine July/August 2019 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ - I also loved the July/August Poetry Magazine collection.

The Man Who Knew The Way to the Moon by Todd Zwillich ⭐⭐⭐★★ - This was an interesting audiobook.

Currently Reading

Doorways to the Deadeye by Eric J. Guignard - I'm a little ways into Doorways to the Deadeye and enjoying it so far!

Recent Acquisitions

The Dragon Republic (The Poppy War #2) by R.F. Kuang - You guys! I am doing this reading thing all wrong! My preorder for The Dragon Republic arrived, and I haven't even read my copy of The Poppy War yet. I clearly have no idea what I'm doing.

The Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon - I've been longing for the audio version of this beast of a book. I was excited to see it pop up as a daily deal on Audible.

So what about you? Let me know what you're reading this week or leave me some links!

  1. This summer did seem to fly by, right? We're still having horrible heat, though. I love it when a book that I've been eyeing becomes an Audible Daily Deal! Score! Hope you love it, Jennifer! :)

  2. I plan to start Doorways in the next week. I've enjoyed some of his other stories so I have high hopes for it. One year already! Time sure flew by.

  4. Jennifer I wanted to listen to The Priory too but I did not like the voice at all! I hope it will work better for you. And yes you need to read the poppy War first! I am listening to The Dragon Republic and it's hard!

  5. Priory is a beast of a book... I think the length of the audio would intimidate me too much to try! At least with the kindle file I'm semi oblivious to how long it is. I hope you enjoy it though.

  7. So many people are loving Hollow Kingdom. I'm so glad I read it and am now o the believe-the-hype bandwagon. Hope everyone has a safe trip back to school and that things slow down a bit for you know. I can almost smell Fall in the air!

  8. It's such a good feeling to keep finding books that fit. I love seeing all those stars. As much as I grumbled about all the activities and whatnot during the school year, the routine was good for me. When I was teaching, I wasted so much time every summer doing nothing.

  9. Oh my gosh, I've done that with pre orders before re: The Poppy War and The Dragon Republic. Most recently, I did that with the Red Queen series. That being said, AHHH! I hope you enjoy The Poppy War and The Dragon Republic when you do get to them! The series is so freaking good. I'm mildly obsessed with it as of late.

Hope you have a good week--both reading and in life!

  15. My son went back to school this week too. I feel like I blinked and his summer was over. Looks like you've had a lot of great reads lately. I've had my eye on Hollow Kingdom so I love seeing that 5 star review from you. :)

  16. My daughter also went back to college last Friday. I would be thrilled to have summer over for a 5 degree drop in temperature. I'm sick of the 90s.

I have been seeing very positive things about Hollow Kingdom so I may have to read it. I saw the ADD on Priory but it's at my library so I have to go that route I think. You have some awesome books. Have a wonderful week and enjoy them!
