On My Wishlist {35}

On My Wishlist is where I share a couple of books that have recently made it onto my wishlist. These are the books that have recently caught my eye!

Alone by Megan E. Freeman
Expected publication: January 12th 2021 by Simon & Schuster/Aladdin

When twelve-year-old Maddie hatches a scheme for a secret sleepover with her two best friends, she ends up waking up to a nightmare. She’s alone—left behind in a town that has been mysteriously evacuated and abandoned.

With no one to rely on, no power, and no working phone lines or internet access, Maddie slowly learns to survive on her own. Her only companions are a Rottweiler named George and all the books she can read. After a rough start, Maddie learns to trust her own ingenuity and invents clever ways to survive in a place that has been deserted and forgotten.

As months pass, she escapes natural disasters, looters, and wild animals. But Maddie’s most formidable enemy is the crushing loneliness she faces every day. Can Maddie’s stubborn will to survive carry her through the most frightening experience of her life?

Alone is another highly anticipated middle grade release. I've heard this described as a dystopian MG, and I'm excited for it.

The Burning Girls
by C.J. Tudor
Expected publication: January 21st 2021 by Michael Joseph

500 years ago: eight martyrs were burnt to death
30 years ago: two teenagers vanished without trace
Two months ago: the vicar committed suicide

Welcome to Chapel Croft.

For Rev Jack Brooks and teenage daughter Flo it's supposed to be a fresh start. New job, new home. But, as Jack knows, the past isn't easily forgotten.

And in a close-knit community where the residents seem as proud as they are haunted by Chapel Croft's history, Jack must tread carefully. Ancient superstitions as well as a mistrust of outsiders will be hard to overcome.

Yet right away Jack has more frightening concerns.

Why is Flo plagued by visions of burning girls?
Who's sending them sinister, threatening messages?
And why did no one mention that the last vicar killed himself?

Chapel Croft's secrets lie deep and dark as the tomb. Jack wouldn't touch them if not for Flo - anything to protect Flo.

But the past is catching up with Chapel Croft - and with Jack. For old ghosts with scores to settle will never rest . . .

I haven't read C.J. Tudor yet, but I want to hop on board with this one. It sounds really suspenseful!

Have you read or are you planning to read any of these? What books have recently made it onto your wishlist?

This post is being shared as part of Can't-Wait Wednesday over at Wishful Endings.

  1. I don't think I've ever seen an MG post apocalyptic story before. That sounds good! And I've never read CJ Tudor either, I really need to try her books!

    1. I'm not sure I had either! I'm excited to check it out.

  2. I keep giving Tudor chance after chance. Maybe I'll find one I like someday. I don't know why I don't give up. Well maybe I do. I'm stubborn and others love her so much I'm afraid I'll miss something. I featured Alone some time back because, well you know, dog on the cover :)

    1. Hmm... I wonder how she will work for me. Of course... Alone is perfect for you! :)

  3. The MG book so looks good. I'm def adding it. Here is my post-

  4. Alone sounds awesome! I'm definitely adding that to my wishlist. Thanks for sharing! :)

  5. Both of these books sound really good! There go two more onto my TBR list. :D

  6. Survival books always put me on edge while I am reading them, but then I am overjoyed when the character overcomes the challenges they face.

  7. I'm always looking for middle grade books that might interest my daughter. I am not sure what she would think of Alone, but it does sound like something I would enjoy for sure. The Burning Girls intrigues me too. I haven't read Tudor before either. I hope you enjoy both of these when you read them!
