September 9 | Currently Reading

Happy Monday! I have a sick kiddo today so I'm writing this post while playing Mario Kart. I hope it turns out coherent

Last week was pitiful for reading and reviewing. I had way too many things sucking my time, and I managed to write zero reviews. The awesome Mark Matthews stepped up and provided a really great guest post on writing dark fiction. If you love horror or have ever wondered why others like horror, it's a fantastic read.

I finally finished reading The Lies of Locke Lamora and properly fangirled my husband to death. Poor guy. But so many things about Locke Lamora were so good. I'm dreading my review because I will have to put these emotions into words! I also read Greg Gifune's House of Rain which kept me up thinking way too late Friday night.

In an effort to silence my brain after House of Rain, I started listening to China Mieville's Kraken. The book is great, and I love the narrator. It's a win so far. I also started reading Red Seas Under Red Skies (the sequel to Locke Lamora). It's awesome so far. I loved the beginning.

I look forward to hearing what everyone is reading this week. Be sure to let me know in the commments or leave a link. For what it's worth, I suck at Mario Kart.

    1. LOL. I'm a die hard Nintendo fan. I love all things Mario. I should ROCK at Mario Kart. I was king of Off Road back in the day... Haha. I seriously suck at Mario Kart. It's ridiculous.

  2. I totally know what you mean about not having any time at this time of the year, September is just such a busy month when you have little ones. Happy that you read a book that you loved so much, those reviews are always the hardest to write. Good luck!

  3. All of those books sound really good to me. The Lies of Locke Lamora going right on my wishlist. And by the way, I also sucked at Mario Kart. I was always Peach and Diddy Kong would throw bananas behind his go kart at me, lol! I miss my kids playing that and also Mario Party. I would be a good sport and join them and then get hooked.

    1. Haha! Good to know I'm not the only one that sucks at Mario Kart. I cannot stay on the track to save my life. If there is an edge to fall over, I will.

  8. Hope your kid feels better! You can get him to play with that lego set instead? Heh. I love Mario Kart. At least you know how to play ;). In a similar situation, my mother would not have been doing that for me.

The Mark Matthews post was quite lovely :). Hahah, you've intrigued me about The Lies of Locke Lamora. Fangirled your husband to death, eh? That good :O? I'll have to make sure to stop by when you do write your glowing review :).

!!! I've wanted to read a China Mieville title for ages. You are yet another person who has praised his work.

Did I say I was reading Brother, Brother last week? Well I'm reading it again this week... need to finish the review soon.

    1. Haha. Their obsession right now is a bag of marbles. Kids. Yes, I do jump in and play with them. I would love Mario Kart if I could stay on the darn track. ;)

Hubs is great to fangirl on because he doesn't read fiction anymore. I can give him all of the spoilers without worrying I'm actually going to spoil anything.

I've been wanting to read Mieville forever, too. I'm so glad I finally am, but now I want to binge on all of them.

I hope you are able to tackle Brother, Brother this week!

  9. ENJOY your reading week.

I am out of town and not getting too much reading done, but I am having fun. Went to a Hachette book event and received 9 books. The event was FABULOUS. I am still here visiting my son...heading home tomorrow.

  10. Read Kraken before I started blogging, so no post on it. It was really fun, and really out there, and really not something I'll ever read again. He's so good and so bad at the same time. Just so out there. Be interesting if you try to review it. I don't know how I'd do it. I'm actually going to stop writing now for fear of my writing delving into the depths of Mieville weird.

    1. I'm listening to it on audio. The narrator is awesome, but I think I may switch to print because it really is out there.
